Section A(1a~2d)

1 be supposed to do sth. 相当于be expected to do sth./should do sth. 如:We are supposed to be here at six. You aren’t supposed to take the books out of the reading room. Role-play a conversation between Maria and Dan. Use the information in 2a and 2b. Well, it was OK, but I made some mistakes. How was the dinner at Paul’s house last night? I was supposed to arrive at 7:00, but … 2c Role-play the conversation. How was the welcome party for foreign students last night? Great! I made some new friends. But a funny thing happened. 2d What? I met a Japanese boy called Sato, and as soon as I held out my hand, he bowed. I remember when I first met Marie last year, I did the same thing. I didn’t know that. So I just stood there with my hand out. Finally, I returned the bow. That’s how people in Japan are expected to greet each other. It’s impolite if you don’t bow. Very funny. Later I found out French people are supposed to kiss when they see each other. I wouldn’t mind that! I held out my hand and to my surprise, she kissed me on both sides of my face. 1. the welcome party 意为:欢迎招待会 2. as soon as表示“一…… I’ll write to you as soon as I get there. Ill tell him as soon as I see him. As soon as I went in, Jason cried out with pleasure 3. Later, I found out French people are supposed to kiss when they see each other. I discovered (that) she was a good cook. Edison didnt discover electricity, but invented the light bulb.
