When there is not enough food or money for the whole family to survive, the stepmother in this story orders their father to take the children to the depths of the forest and leave them. When the father resists, she mocks 嘲笑,戏弄him and convinces him that by keeping the children all four would soon perish. Her personality of the stepmother is clearly observable. The Wicked Witch :is physically wizened, very old , and bent from her years . . . Passive versus Active Roles However, unlike many fairy tales, Hansel and Gretel changes by the end to show the heroic side of female roles.This change occurs when Gretel realizes that both her survival and that of her brother lies solely in her hands. She creates the idea of pushing the witch in, and tricks her into bending down. Her heroics also demonstrate her physical strength.
