Unit 10 Public Transport The First Period Teaching aims: To talk about how to ask the way. To be able to describe the relationship between people and public transport. Master the important phrases. Key points: To learn what are associated with public transport. Difficult points: Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to …? You can take either…or… Which one should I take? Teaching Methods: Listening and saying Pair work and group work Teaching aids: Tape recorder Procedures: Step 1 Greetings and Lead-in Greet the whole class. Ask Ss to do Warm-up. Encourage Ss to think about as much transport as possible and help them to match the pictures with the related terms. Introduce more fashionable public transport to Ss. Check the Warm-up with the whole class. Step 2 Listening 1 Learn the new words of this part. Notes: subway n.美 地铁 e.g: Taking the subway is often faster than taking the bus. Could you tell me where the subway station is? 2. Ask Ss to look at the pictures, and then prepare doing listening. 3. Play the tape. Ask Ss to do the match. Play the tape again, and then check the answers with the whole class. Script of listening: Mary goes to Xi’an by train. Mike goes to the city library by bus. Mr and Mrs Smith will go to Beijing by plane. Mrs Smith and Mrs Brown will go shopping by subway. Maria will go to Dalian by ship. Step 3 Dialogue 1 Explain some important words and useful sentences. Encourage Ss to make some sentences. Explain the important phrases and divide the students into 3 groups to discuss and complete the dialogue with the words given below. Play the tape and ask Ss to read after it, and then ask Ss to play the dialogue. Let Ss to guess where the dialogue takes place and the relation between them. Ask Ss to talk about their own experience about going out. Remember the following important phrases: Excuse me,could you tell me how to get to …? You can take either…or… Which one should I take? Step 4 Role Play 1 Practise the important phrase
