俄狄浦斯的故事 The story of Oedipus * It was predicted that when Oedipus grew up,he would kill his father and married his mother. So he was abandoned in the wild. A servant saved him and sent him to a couple. One day,Oedipus heard of the prediction,so he led a vagrant life. Oedipus met his father on the narrow path,neither of them gave way.In the fight, Oedipus killed his father. Because Oedipus defeated enchantress Sphinx,so he became the king.And according to the custom,he married the queen(his mother). (The woman in the picture is Sphinx.) They gave birth to two sons and two girls,but then natural disaster came. Oedipus asked Tiresias(the prophet) for help. Only then did he know what a huge mistake he had made.He had killed his father,and married his mother. His mother killed herself for shame,and he blind himself. *
