* * Divide the students into groups of 4 or 5. Before they begin to discuss the second question, click the hyperlink (the underlined words in the slide) to play the MV of “Earth Song” to give the students some ideas about what we human beings did to the world. * * * * * * Ask one of the group members to give the speech but don’t tell them before hand. Just make them do it like an impromptu one. * * Click the first hyperlink (the words underlined) and play the video clip about the cause after the students finish their discussion on the causes. Click the second hyperlink for another video clip about Kiribati’s current situation after they finish the second part of their discussion. How many disposable chopsticks do you use in your lifetime? How many plastic bags do you use in your lifetime? How many batteries do you use in your lifetime? How much water do you use in your lifetime? * Warming up Waste not, want not Look at the snapshot at P44 and discuss the questions in pairs: 1) Which is the most wasteful? 2) Which is the most harmful? 3) Do you know of any other wasteful or harmful activities? * Part 1: Environmental Problems Discuss in groups of 4 or 5: What environmental problems are we facing? (Match the photographs on P45 with the sentences below, pay attention to the problems and causes. Any other causes for the problems?)
