What is the colonialism and the postcolonialism? Colonialism is a relationship between an indigenous majority and a minority of foreign invaders. Colonists insist on the euro-centrism. The colonisers are convinced of their own superiority over the colonized. Post-Colonialism mainly deals with the cultural issue of the former colonized countries and the relations between them and the ex-colonists. Postcolonialists challenge the euro-centrism. In their opinion, Western thinking is not superior, progressive and universally applicable. They pay more attention to the local knowledge. 2. What is the method age and the postmethod age? Method age: During the period before 1990, many scholars pay too much attention to devise language teaching methods. In their opinion, there exists the best methods that we can find after taking much effort. And then too many methods were devised and even make teachers bewildered. Postmethod age: Facing methods’ explosion, some scholars think that the new methods are not really new and they are just old methods coated with fresh paint. Some teachers use the methods mechanically and then they were limited by the procedures of certain methods. So, some scholars started to look at methods critically. They think that methods are not so useful and even dead. And then, Kumaravadivelu put forward the term postmethod in 1994. He thinks that we should an alternative to method not a method alternative.
