The birth and development of modern linguistics make studies of proverbs reach a new peak in the depth and breadth. These studies focus on characteristics, content and framework, as well as the structural principles of the emergence and development of proverbs. In addition, there are more achievements in studying the function of proverbs, such as social functions, grammatical functions and rhetorical functions, etc. With the emergence and popularity of Pragmatics in recent years, combining proverbs with Pragmatics to do studies is a new and promising field. There are many scholars at home and abroad to study proverbs in pragmatic field which has made great achievements. Significance of the Study To refer to proverbial variants as the research target, and to study them based on COCA is not only convincible but also has great academic and practical significance. First, it is beneficial to broaden and deepen the understanding and acquisition of English proverbs and their variants Second, to study English proverbial variants based on the original and authentic data in COCA is helpful to second language learners to learn of and master more accurate, flexible and idiomatic use of English proverbs and their variants.
