Suggested answer: 1) Great research abilities. A great historian must be adept at reading and analyzing texts and other primary sources in order to come up with something new about something old. 2) Independent or suspicious mind. With a suspicious mind, historians are able to formulate a way of looking at an event or period in a new context. 3) Cogent writing skills. A good historian is to articulate his or her arguments clearly and persuasively. Such argument should have structure and be relevant and concise. In some cases, a great historian is also a good narrator of events. 4) Unbiased attitude A good historian should be unbiased, and is willing to change his views once contradictory evidences are verified.
