Lesson 16 A polite request Ask and answer the questions in pairs. What happens if you park your car in the wrong place? He usually gives you a parking ticket, doesn’t he? Are you lucky if he lets you go without one? Do the traffic police always give parking tickets? Traffic police are sometimes very polite, aren’t they? Where were you spending a holiday? What did you find on your car? Did it welcome you to the city? Were you in a “No Parking” area? What did the note ask you to pay attention to? Retell the story: 1. A request like this --- cannot fail --- obey it A polite request If you park your car in the wrong place, a traffic policeman will soon find it. You will be very lucky if he lets you go without a ticket. However, this does not always happen. Traffic police are sometimes very polite. During a holiday in Sweden, I found this note on my car: ‘sir, we welcome you to out city. This is a “No Parking” area. You will enjoy your stay here if you pay attention to our street signs. This note is only a reminder.’ If you receive a request like this, you cannot fail to obey it! Summary writing Traffic police usually give you a ticket if you park you car in the wrong place. The writer found a police note on his car during a holiday in Sweden. The traffic police wanted him to pay attention to their street signs. No one can fail to obey a polite request. (50 words) allow let allow sb. to do sth. (较为正式)  sb. is allowed to do sth. let sb. do sth. (通常不用于被动语态) 1. 我们不允许大家在教室里吸烟。 However but However 是副词,既可放在句子的开头,又可放在句中。But 是连词,用来连接一个句子,它只能位于句首,而且强调对比。 Fail to do sth.
