The processes were conducted 3-D moulding by UG software. Then, the solidification defects of the castings were simulated by HZCAE software. The simulated results of initial casting processes show that the castings middle and bottom sections produced serious shrinkage. The simulation defects of the castings were significantly decreased by rationally setting riser, chill iron and gating system.
