Characteristics of sulphur retention in ashes of chinese coals used for
power generation

Abstract The characteristics of sulphur retention in laboratoryprepared ash was statistically analyzed
based on regular analyticaldata fro a set of 186 coal sa ples.It isshownthat the higher sulphur content
of coal is,the lower olar ratio of Ca/ S and olar ratios of Mg/ S,2Na/ S,2K/ S are,thus the lower per
centageof sulphur retention in ash is.Calciu playsa pri ary role insulphur retention,and the percentage
of sulphur retained in ash increasesasan exponentialfunction with the incre ent of Ca/ S olar ration of
coal.The active parts of the rest basic ele ents(Mg,Na, K,etc.) can also contribute to sulphur retention.
It is i plied fro the results of this investigation that the sulphur retention behavior of laboratorypre
pared ash can be applied to fluidized bed co bustion and can be used as reference in pulverized coal co
bustion.
