China Environmental Science, 2006,26(Suppl.)48~51 Abstract In order to investigate the feasibility of taking biochemical technique instead of partial ozone oxidation, the partial ozone oxidation of phenanthrene (Phe) was made. The oxidation process and the intermediate products changes were observed using HPLC and UV; and the influences of the TOC of aqueous solution of intermediate products and these products on oxygen uptake rate(OUR) of activated sludge were examined. Intermediate products were produced at the same time when the ozone was oxidized by phenanthrene, the ozone could react with these intermediate products; but difficult to mineralize it. However, the ozone oxidation could improve the biochemical property of phenanthrene. Therefore, the combination of ozone oxidation with biodegradation would be a potentially efficient and economical way to treat phenanthrenc in wastewater.
