The choice of its retaining method affects obviously the cost, schedule and quality of the project, and even may be the key to the successful achievement of the project’s objective. Through the analysis of the characteristics of littoral mucky soils, the common retaining and protection systems of foundation excavation in China were comprehensively compared and analyzed in combination with the engineering practices, and the engineering and construction principle of “adjusting measures to local conditions” was expounded for the retaining and protection of foundation excavation.
