Analysis of DC Grid Prospects in China

ABSTRACT: As the fossil energy is exhausting, China has
paid special attention to the construction of smart gird, the
development of renewable energy, and adjustment of national
energy structure. As the renewable energy generation is
intermittent and unstable, integrating renewable power plants at
a large scale will cause power grid instability. It is proposed 0
that this problem can be solved through constructing a
wide-area DC grid. This paper presented that constructing a
national backbone DC transmission grid would lead to
exploring renewable energy more effectively and promoting
construction of China’s smart grid. Compared to AC power
systems, DC grids have many advantages in power distribution
networks and micro-networks. Based on China’s resource
