It studies incentive problems from the perspective of setting clear goals. After the theory was put forward, researchers continue to supplement and perfect it. The article mainly introduces two models proposed in the research process of target setting theory: basic model and extended model. Future research directions are also prospected. Key words target setting, motivation, basic model, extended model Classification number 59.875 The theory of motivation is gradually developed and perfected. The existing incentive theory can be divided into two main categories, one emphasizes the content of motivation, and the other is called content motivation theory. It mainly includes Maslows hierarchy of needs theory, Alderfers theory of existence relation growth (ERG theory for short), Hertz Bergs two factor theory and Mcclellands theory of achievement needs. Another kind of theory emphasizes the process that incentive content is accepted by the incentive object and produces certain stimulating power, which is called process oriented motivation theory. There are mainly the expectation theory of Fu, Adamss equity theory and Hydes attribution theory. Goal setting theory belongs to process oriented motivation theory. In the study, Rock, a professor of management and psychology at the University of Maryland, found that outside stimuli such as rewards, job feedback, and supervisory pressure all influenced motivation through goals. Goals can guide activities toward behavior related to goals, enabling people to adjust their efforts according to the size of the difficulty, and to influence the persistence of the behavior.
