Waterproofing Outdoor Connectors There are two types of tapes can be used together for waterproof-insulating: Waterproof-insulating tape, for sealing water and air ; PVC tape, for protecting connectors and resisting abrasion and aging of the waterproof-insulating tape. Figure 2-1 shows the waterproof-insulating tape. Waterproof-insulating tape Figure 2-2 shows the PVC tape. PVC tape To waterproof the outdoor connectors, proceed as follows: Clean the feeder connectors or feeder grounding clips. See the following picture. Firstly, wrap one layer of PVC tape with 50% overlapped to the feeder connector or feeder grounding clips before apply the waterproof- insulating tape .The first layer PVC tape is mainly used for repair work. 3 ) Uncoil the waterproof-insulating tape. Stick the end of the tape to the feeder at the point 2 to 5 cm under the connector or grounding clip. Note that the glued side must face the feeder. 4) Stretch the waterproof-insulating tape until it is as 3/4 to 1/2 wide as its original shape and wrap the waterproof-insulating tape with 50% overlapped. Make sure that the stretched width is at least 3/4 of the original width. Otherwise over-stretching may damage the molecular structure of the tape and lower its reliability. 5) Wrap up the feeder spirally upward while maintaining this stretching strength. Make sure that the overlapping area of adjacent tape layers is 3/4 of the stretched width, as shown in Figure 2-3. Wrapping up feeder using PVC tape 6) When the waterproof-insulating tape runs 2 to 5 cm above the connector or grounding clip, reverse the direction to let the wrapping goes back towards starting point. Wrap the feeder with three layers of waterproof-insulating tape. In order to have a better appearance, additional 1~2 layers of waterproof tape can be applied in the middle depressed areas.
