Methods: The difference of medication error, the documentation record time, the infection rate and the mortality of critical ill patients before and after using the nursing information system in Intensive Care Unit were analyzed. Results: The number of medication error was 0 after using the nursing information system in Intensive Care Unit; the average documentation time was significantly reduced from 76.60±10.37 minutes to 44.28±9.43 minutes; the central venous catheter infection rate was reduced from 2.43 to 2.01 cases in one thousand days. The mortality rate of critical ill patients was also reduced from 7.98% to 6.13%. Conclusion: The application of nursing information system in Intensive Care Unit can ensure medical orders executed correctly, improve working efficiency, and reduce infection rate and the mortality rate of critical ill patients.
