The coat check room There are three people that work in the coat-check room The first person takes your coat The person can take 15 coats per minute (1 every 4 seconds) The second person hangs up your coat The person can hang up 6 coats per minute (1 every 10 seconds) The third person tags the coat and gives you the corresponding tag The person can tag 12 coats per minute (1 every 5 seconds) THE COAT CHECK PROCESS FLOW Customers in line with their coats Coat check person #1 takes your coat Coat check person #2 hangs up your coat Coat check person #3 tags your coat Customer receives tag and goes upstairs Phoenix night club Why are you waiting in line? The second person that hangs up the coat is the bottleneck Remember, the bottleneck is the slowest step in the process and determines capacity The second person is two and a half times slower than the person that takes the coat and two times slower than the person that tags the coat The coat-check is moving at six coats per minute On a typical Saturday night between 10:45 pm – 11:45 pm, nine people per minute decide to leave the club So…each minute after 11:45 pm, there are an additional three people waiting in line By 12:15 am, there are 90 people waiting in line!!!
