ANTERIOR CEREBRAL ARTERY 泰和医院神经外科 何承彪 Anterior cerebral arterial system The anterior cerebral arterial system includes the anterior cerebral artery, the anterior communicating artey, pericallosal artery and its branches. It supplies the medial aspect of the frontal and parietal lobes, the caudate nucleus, basal ganglion, corpus callosum and the base of the frontal lobe. Anterior cerebral arterial system The medial aspect of the cerebral hemisphere is divided into 8 areas which are supplied by branches of the anterior cerebral artery bearing the same names. Only the horizontal segment of the artery is called the anterior cerebral. Anterior cerebral arterial system The anterior cerebral artery is divided into 5 segments A1 segment: the proximal or horizontal segment, from the bifurcation of the internal carotid artery to the anterior communicating artery; A2 segment: the segment inferior to the corpus callosum which convex anteriorly; A3 segment: the segment along the genu of corpus callosum which convex anteriorly; A4 segment: the segment along the superior margin of the corpus callosum at the frontal lobe; A5 segment: the terminal segment, which runs along the margin of the corpus callosum at the parietal lobe. 1、A1 SEGMENT It curves slightly superiorly or runs horizontally in A-P or Water’s view. The recurrent artery of Heubner is the largest perforating branch of A1 segment with a diameter of 0.2-2.9mm (average 1mm), which runs laterally for 2-3cm and then enters the anterior perforating substance to supply the anterior part of the caudate nucleus, the anterior 1/3 of the putamen, anterior tip of the globus pallidus externus and the anterior limb of the internal capsule. 2. ANTERIOR COMMUNICATING ARTERY It situates between bilateral anterior cerebral arteries, about 1-2mm in length, and forms the anterior part of circle of Willis.
