Innovation does not have to come from big legacy organisations with massive RD budgets. In fact, I’m still amused at how the national carrier goliath here, with their decades of experience, massive balance sheet, tens of thousands of employees, appears to be copying a smaller start-up like us – from e-ticketing to web-check-in, to introducing co-branded credit cards. And of course now, they want to be a five-star airline with low-cost carrier cost. Flattering, but dangerous as they are not keeping up with Singapore and Emirates. Ideas from Innovation also come from outside the industry. We’ve gained a lot by sending our engineers to the UK-based Williams Formula 1 team, to get new ideas and insights that we can then introduce into our airline, from Fuel consumption monitoring and management Aerodynamics and its effect on fuel consumption Use of composite materials that reduce weight Maintenance organisation and process to streamline and speed up maintenance work Presenter: CSFB Banker * * This is my CEO’s favorite saying, “Believe the unbelievable, dream the Impossible, don’t take no for an Answer”.
