Nanjin Institute of Environmental Sciences, State Environmental Protection Administration, Nanjin 210042, China Abstract: In order to understand the state of China. s ecolo ical security, a comprehensive assessment system containin fifteen indicators reflectin five aspects which are land security, water security, atmospheric security, biolo ical security and ecolo ical disaster were established and a scientific and concrete assessment for China. s ecolo ical security on the national scale were conducted. The states of ecolo ical security of various provinces were classified into three rades accordin to the ecolo ical security indexes from hi h to low: / the first rade0 , / the second rade0 and/ the third rade0 . The results were listed as follows: the provinces achievin / the first rade0 ecolo ical security were Tibet, Hainan, Guan xi, Fujian, Guan don , Yunnan and Jian xi; the ones with / the second rade0 ecolo ical security were Heilon jian , Hunan, Shan hai, Qin hai, Zhejian , Anhui, Guizhou, Henan, Hubei, Shandon , Xinjian , Jilin, Chon qin , Gansu and Sichuan; the ones with / the third rade0 ecolo ical security were Inner Mon olia, Jian su, Beijin , Liaonin , Heb
