Methods during 2014 January to 2014 April in our hospital for treatment of pneumonia in 100 cases, including 50 cases of severe pneumonia, 50 cases of common pneumonia. Over the same period in our hospital health examination was performed in 50 cases, divided into severe pneumonia group, ordinary pneumonia group, normal control group 3 groups, platelet counts were compared between groups differences. At the same time using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve area evaluation of platelet count increased under the diagnostic value in prediction of children with severe pneumonia. Results the mean platelet count in children with severe pneumonia group was (452.2 ± 20.71) × 109/L, children with ordinary pneumonia group mean platelet count is (386.1 ± 19.98) × 109/L, normal control group mean platelet count is (191.6 ± 6.882) × 109/L. Severe pneumonia group and the platelet count in children with ordinary pneumonia group were significantly higher than those in normal control group, the difference was statistically significant, p0.001. Severe pneumonia group and the ordinary pneumonia group were found in children with severe pneumonia group, platelet count was significantly higher than that of ordinary pneumonia group, the difference was statistically significant, p0.05. ROC curve analysis showed: the area under the curve is 0.910, 95% confidence interval 0.814 ～ 0.968, P 0.0001, has better diagnostic value. When platelet diagnosis value is 438 × 109/L, the largest Youden index, was 0.7123, the sensit
