Abstract: In-situ mea surements of settling velocities w ere conducted at Xuliujing in Changjiang
Estuary during a flood tidal and medium tidal fro m Sept.20 07 to Oct.2 007.A n O BS3A and a
LISST-100 (Ty pe B)w ere used to gether with sufficient water samples to e stimate the settling
velo city of suspended sediments.Ba sed o n the results of measured relatio nship betw een the aver-
ag e flo c si e and flo c density, improvement on the original appro ach was implemented to relax the
basic assumptio n:(1)floc density are the same for all flo c si e;(2 )the volume of v oid w ater
was included.T hus a better settling velocity of suspended sediment can be estimated.
