School of Geographical Sciences, Southwest University, Chongqing 400715, China Abstract: It’s difficult to research the conduit structure in subterranean river in South China due to the heterogeneity of karst. The conduit section of the subterranean river from Yanwotuo to Zhichang Spring in Pengshui County, Chongqing was taken as a case to study. A technique of online and high-resolution tracing test was employed with the tracer of uranine. The breakthrough curve (BTC) of the uranine in the karst groundwater was obtained to quantitatively investigate the geometrical characteristics of the conduit structure and the flow field. Results show that as much as 82.2% of the recovery mass rate of the injected uranine proved that the Zhichang Spring was the main discharging outlet of the karst watershed basin. The BTC of the uranine presents as a shape of double peaks, indicating that two karst conduits in?parallel exist in the study area. Based on the quantitative calculation of BTC of the uranine, the mean diameter of the conduits and the water volume in the karst aquifer were 17 meters and 4.5×106 m?0 respectively.
