Abstract: T ak ing Shaw an T unne l as backg round, the influ ence of tunne l. s stab ility resulting from the tmi e o f c losing the
support in large section tunne l w ith doub le-s ide-dr ift m ethod is stu died by f in ite elem ent so ftw are AN SY S w ith the load- re-
leasing m ethod. Through analyzing vertical disp lacem ent of the v au lt, hor izonta l displacem ent o f the m iddle po int o f side-
w al,l plastic zone of surround ing ro ck and stresses o f prelmi inary lin ing, the result show s tha t sea ling the prmi ary shor ing
qu ick ly is favorable to contro l the stresses and d isplacem ents of the tunne.l So in con struc tion pro cess the d istance betw een
ad jacen t ex cavation faces should be sho rtened and the speed o f closure should be stepp ed up to achiev e stability of the tun-
nel. The state o f reinforcing p arts o f surrounding ro ck is smi u lated in order to further sea rch fo r som e w ay to mi prove the
stresses o f the tunne.l It is show n th at re in fo rc ing the surrounding rock near the con tact area of the temporary support and
