METHODS ：We found out the difficulty in the workflow of outpatient pharmacy by questionnaire survey ，simulation data processing and profession- al consulting. Specific measures were formulated for the optimization of workflow. RESULTS ：The main problems of workflow of outpatient pharmacy in our hospital were patients waiting for long time to get medicine and low work efficiency. The reasons were pre-dispensary ，handwritten prescriptions ，unreasonable pharmacy setting ，screen reminding ，inadequate pharmacy space and ma- chine failure. By data analysis ，main approaches to optimize workflow were cancelling pre-dispensary ，establishing physician work- station ，implementing electronic prescriptions ，combining traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy and western medicine pharmacy and updating the machine.
