Crystal chem ist~. of various ~.pes of structure is discussed. INTRODUCTION Transition metal cluster compounds are complex inorganic substances which stir the wowing interest of researchers. Modern cluster chemistry owes much of its prowess to the discoveries of a great number of original compounds with unusual structures [1-5]. Interest in cluster compounds arises from a number of factors. First, as opposed to mononuclear complexes, cluster compounds are generally complex in structure and composition and demonstrate ample coordination opportunities of elements, leading to a wide varietyofcrystal structures with unusual properties. Second, these compounds may be selectively modified both by replacing some atoms (including metal atoms to obtain heterometallic clusters) in the cluster core and by varying the nature of the external ligand or counterion. For example, cluster complexes with the same cluster core may be obtained in anionic, neutral, or cationic form. Thus cluster complexes may be regarded as excellent models for investigating the nature of interatomic interactions and clarifying th
