Norman Bethune was a Canadian and also a communist. He had a very strong feeling against injustice. He was also a very important doctor in his own country who made many important changes to the way surgery was carried out. He fought against the German Nazis and Japanese invaders during World War II. He worked selflessly in China as a doctor and saved many Chinese soldiers. Sun Yat-sen founded the first Republic in China in 1911 after many years’ fighting. He strongly believed in the three principles: nationalism; people’s rights; people’s livelihood. (a government of the people, by the people and for the people 民有,民治,民享的政府) Mohandas Gandhi gave up a rich life for his ideas and fought for his country to be free from the UK in a peaceful way. Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. He was a pilot in the American Air Force and later joined the astronaut program. He was chosen to be the first man to walk on the moon. He said, “That’s one small step for a man, but one giant leap for mankind.” Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents the United States ever had and one of the greatest men that ever lived. He will always be remembered as the man who freed four million black people from slavery. In 1860, the people who were against slavery chose Abraham Lincoln to run for president of the United States. On January 1, 1863, while the civil war was still going on, Abraham Lincoln made an important announcement known as the Emancipation Proclamation《解放宣言》. The Emancipation Proclamation said that all the slaves in the eleven Confederate states(联邦州) were free. Many of the slaves who heard they were free ran away to help the North win the civil war. Five days after the war ended, Abraham Lincoln was shot(被枪击) and killed. The people of America built a beautiful Memorial(纪念碑) in Washington, D.C., to honor Abraham Lincoln.
