Learning discrete mathematics has been widely considered as a must in IT education. However, teaching discrete mathematics for IT students is still challenging due to various situations in different institutions. This paper introduces tailoring topics according to students’ background and needs, and designing exercise to meet the course goals for IT major students in a predominantly undergraduate university in US. The successful experience presented in this paper is expected to inspire educators in other institutions.
