It must be the reliable director in the application of language and the silent teacher of the language learner. An excellent dictionary should be the resource from which the students obtain the knowledge of language and culture. It also should be a good tool to inspire the students to explore interest, to encourage them to search the way of self-study, to find and solve problems. With the development of the modern technology, mobile education is booming in these years. The e-dictionary has become a frequently-used study tool in English learning. This paper will describe different forms of dictionary in general including the advantage and disadvantage of bilingual dictionary, monolingual dictionary, paper dictionary and e-dictionary. Since 1920s, the corpus linguistic brought a deep revolution in the language study of which the language teaching widely used. The corpus is used in many aspects in the compile of dictionaries of which the most super is to make the compiler get the true and typical examples from amounts of linguistic material quickly. In the way, the application of corpus-based dictionary plays a more crucial role in English language teaching. However, some shortages and defects still exist and are expected to be solved. The paper will propose some suggestion to these corresponding problems.
