141 TU94 A 2006)S0153404 (1978 ) Studies on present status of retaining structures for deep excavation in Beijing LUO Wen-lin, HAN Xuan, LIU Cheng-wei (Beijing Geotechnical Institute, Beijing 100038, China) Abstract: With the trend of quick development of the Beijing urban construction, more and more difficulties for the design and construction of the pit excavation and retaining structures have been encountered because the deeper and deeper foundation is used to utilize the underground space. A lot of cases of the foundation pit failures have been reported recently which cause not only enormous economic losses, but also negative influences. Based on a wide literature review including 141 case studies, the characteristics of the engineering geology and the main foundation pit excavations and support techniques in Beijing were summarized and discussed, from which the present technical and application status of the typical foundation pit excavation and supporting techniques in Beijing can be reflected.
