The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish flok.A man named Jck,he was notorious because he likes drinking and tricking .One day he tricked Satan into climbiing a tree ,then he carved a cross on the trunk ,not to let the devil donw the tree. Then Jack made a deal with the devil, if he would not to take his soul when he died,he would promise the devil down the tree. Many years later, when Jack finally died. He was not allowed to enter heaven. He then went down to Hell and the Devil. The Devil kept his promise and would not allow him to enter Hell. Now Jack was scared and had nowhere to go but to wander about forever in the darkness between heaven and hell with a candle put in a pumpkin, called Jack-o-lantern. Trick or treat! Money or eat! The children also put on strange masks and frightening costumes every Halloween. Some children paint their faces to look like monsters. Then they carry boxes or bags from house to house.
