In the history, the original currency is object, such as gold, silver, shell. They are goods which are not easy to be carried. They are common trusting of material, people use them as a currency. This currency is characterized by its weight. Currency : A generally accepted form of money, including coins and paper note, which is issued by a government and circulated within an economy. Currency is the basis for trade. 2.The Origin of Ancient Chinese Currency The first people did not buy goods from other people with money. They used barter to exchange what they wanted. Barter is the exchange of personal possessions of value for other goods that you want. Livestock was often used as a unit of exchange. Later, as agriculture developed, people used crops for barter. eg: I could ask another farmer to trade a pound of apples for a pound of bananas. 3.The Development of Ancient Chinese Currency The history of Chinese currency spans more than 3000 years. Currency of some type has been used in China since the New Stone Age about 3000 to 4500 years ago. Cowry shells are believed to have been the earliest form of currency used in Central China, and were used during the New Stone Age.
