Abstract Singlew ell imaging technique show s a good prospect in the applications f or ex ploration
of unconventional resources How ever in order to image discontinuities the w eak ref lections in
sonic w avef orm s need to be enhanced w hile the largeamplitude direct arrivals need to be
suppressed T he w ave separation method f or the single w ell imaging technique is optimized
under the prerequisite conditions w ithout changing the apparatus and the measurement mode
T he dispersive characteristics of the mode w aves are propo sed to be considered during the filtering
processing and the slow nesstime semblance method is introduced f or a more accurate estimation
of the borehole direct w aves A s a result the parametric prediction filtering method w idely used
in the SWI technique is improved Application of the improved method to field data processing
enhances the efficiency of the ref lection ex traction
