JournalofAgriculturalScienceandTechnologyB4(2014)49—57 Earliertitle:JournalofAgriculturalScienceandTechnology,ISSN 1939-1250 … … … ImpactAssessmentofTechnologyChangeonDurum W heatProductivity:A CrossSectionalAnalysisin CentralSemi.aridTunisia AliChebil,AymenFrijaandSondesAmri NationalInstitutefo,ResearchinRuralEngineering,WatersandForests(1NRGREF),Ariana2080,Tunisia 2.HigherSchoolofAgriculture(ESA)Mograne,Zaghouan1121,Tunisia Received:October28,2013/Published:January20,2014 Abstraet:TheenhancementofwheatyieldinTunisiabecomesamustforpolicymakerswhoneedtoreducetheimportationsofthis commodity.Inthiscontext.the “FoodSecurityinArabCountries”projecthasbeenestablishedinordertotransfertechnological innovationsthatimproveirrigatedwheatproductivity.Asapilotarea,thisprojectisbeingimplementedinChebika(CentralTunisia) region.whereinthelasttwoyearsanew technologicalpackageofdurum wheatproductionhasbeentestedbymanyfarmersofthe region.TheobjectiveofthisstudyistoidentiCythesourcesofoutputgainsbetweenfarmersparticipatingintheprojecttrialsand famr er’susingconventionaltechniques.Tornqvist.Thielindexwasusedfortheidentificationoftheoutputgainsgeneratedbythe technologypackage.Datausedfortheanalysiswerecollectedfrom 60participatingfamr ersduring201l-2012croppingseason.and ll0non—participatingfarmers.Resultsshow thataverageproductionvaluedifferentialbetweenparticipatingandnon-participating farmersis48.4%.Thisvalueiscomposedof9.3% gaingeneratedrfom globalfactorproductivityand39.1% from theincreaseofthe inputsuse.Italso indieatestherelative importanceofinputscontributing to theglobalfactorproductivity difference between enhancedtechnologicalpackageandconventionalpracticesintheregion.Theseresultsarevaluableofrpolicymakerssincetheycan beusedtofcICUSonmainfactorsaffectingtheimprovementofirrigatedwheatproductivityin CentralTunisia.Encouragingthe adoptiono
