J．Chem．Chem．Eng．7(2013)1074-1086 lnnovativeProductionofPCMs(PhaseChangeMaterials) PreparationbyVacuum Impregnation：Thermaland PhysicalProperties SirikalayaSuvachittanont，ApinyaDuangchanandThanitM etheenukul DepartmentofChemicalEngineering,FacultyofEngineering，KasetsartUniversiyt,Bangkok10900,Thailand Received：August19，2013／Accepted：September24，2013／Published：November25，2013 Abstract：Energyisessentia1foreveryhumanactivityofrmorecornofrtablelifebutalsoconsumesmorenaturalresources．Inorder tocontrolhuman comofrt．temperatureusually requiredwhenthedifferencesintemperatureswingbetweenindoorandoutdoor temperatures．PCMs(phasechangematerials)arethehighlatentheatmaterialswhichCallbeusedinbuildingmaterialsforenergy conservationpurpose．PCMscanstorethermalenergyandalsocanpreventheattopassthroughtemperaturecontrolareas．Paramn hasbeenusedasPCMsareabsorbedintotheporeofflyashasparaffin／fly．ashcompositena dmixedintothebuildingsmaterials． Praamnisanorgna icmaterialwithhighmeltingpoint(～59。C1，andnonflammablematerialsthereforcparaffincanbeusedasthe buildingmaterialsofrthefunctionofPCMsofrenergysavingpurposes．CompositePCMscanbepreparedbyvacuum impregnation process．Paraffininliquidofrm willbeimpregnatedintotheporeoffly ashby vacuum capillaryforcetoofmr paraffin／flyash compositePCMs．Vacuum impregnation pressures，vacuum times，impregnation timesofliquid paraffinin fly ash poresand temperaturesofrmeltingthesolidparaffinintotheliquidofmr raeallaffectonthethermalpropertiesofpraaffin／flyashcomposite PCMs．ParaffinorPCM simpregnationarealsorelatetothephysicalpropertyincludingthefractaldimensionsoftheporesofthefly ashparticlesandparafnn／flyashcompositePCMs．Thefractaldimensionsoftheporeofflyashandparaffin／fly ashcomposites PCMsarebetweenthevaluesof1．0and2．0．Fractaldimensionsofpraaffin／fly．ashcompositePCMshavethesametrendasthe thermalpropertiesofrheatcapaciyt andlatentheatofmelting．Thesefractaldimensionstechniqueisanovelmethodtomeasure physicalpropertyofbuildingmaterialrel
