从草图到建筑 -- 设计的演进过程 东馆 1)华盛顿特区地图 全图 东馆 位置 2)挑战与问题 三个来自地段的难题——The architect faced several challenges: (1)The new building had to fit an irregularly shaped, trapezoidal site;(2) conform to the monumental scale of the Mall; and (3)harmonize with John Russell Popes classicizing West Building, completed in 1941. 设计的重点和过程——During the laborious design process, Pei and a small team of young architects explored many creative possibilities for the buildings plan, exterior profile, and roofing of the great atrium. The drawings and models shown in this program illustrate various phases in the evolution of the final design. They were selected from more than 150 design drawings and models for the project that I. Many of their ideas are recorded in quick working studies, some relating closely to Peis initial plan based on two triangles and others testing alternative possibilities.
