Different from many contemporary writers’harsh critics to cities, he eulogizes BuenosAires passionately. Under his pen, the image of city is peaceful, quiet, beautiful, simple and full of tenderness. The beauty of a city comes from the rich meaning towhich the image of a city contains.JorgesLuise Borges’poems are the models which employ metaphors as rhetorical device. The city in his poems is not a single signal, but multi-metaphors that annotate Borges’ deep thought and show his introspection for metaphysics, his nation’s history and culture as well as the city civilization. The poet’s strong affection, care for human, passion for his country and magnification for civilization are overflowing from that deep thought. Taking Borges’poems in his early years, this paper specifically analyzed the city in the poet’s eyes, the metaphysical meaning ofthe city image andthepoet’sfeeling.
