* * * * * * * * * * Global Carrier-Class Gigabit Ethernet application As Ethernet is the interface of choice for Enterprises, the G-series cards of the ONS 15454 can be leveraged by Service Providers that do business worldwide to offer Global Carrier-Class Gigabit Ethernet Leased Lines for Multi-National companies and connect 2 sites across oceans. Because the Ethernet encapsulation in the SONET and SDH frames is the same within the G1000-4 cards in the ONS 15454 and ONS 15454 SDH platforms, IXCs who do business worldwide can interconnect ONS 15454 SDH and ONS 15454 SONET sub-networks in order to offer a Global Carrier-Class Gigabit Ethernet Leased Line service to their international customers. Such a service can be terminated with the G-series card at both ends as depicted on the figure above. This application leverages the SDH tunneling capacity of the ONS 15454 and the possibility to provision optical ports for SDH in order to interface SONET and SDH networks with STM-16 or STM-64. As network reliability is key, 1+1 optical protection is supported on SDH configured optical ports on the ONS 15454 as shown on the figure below. In most cases, due to existing infrastructures, the ONS 15454 will not interface directly with an ONS 15454 SDH but with another vendor SDH platform. The traffic is then transported across the ocean through a DWDM sub-marine link and then through a SDH network to an ONS 15454 SDH sub-network in a Metro area. For that reason, the application is probably valid only for 150 Mbit/s, 600 Mbit/s and line rate Gigabit Ethernet. Indeed, these bit rates result from circuit provisioning using standard concatenated payloads that should be supported all along the Gigabit Ethernet circuit between the G-series cards on the ONS 15454 SDH and SONET. Even so the ONS 15454 supports a wider range of sizes for Gigabit Ethernet circuits, those based on non-standard payloads can probably not be used due to the lack of support by other vendor products. * * * * Le
