* * Integration with WLAN Infrastructure – this is the biggest advantage. You don’t need a separate WIDS system. It’s built into the mobility controller and APs. Many enterprises start out using Aruba for WIDS and very easily and inexpensively move on to providing access. Rogue AP Detection, Classification, and Location – Aruba provides classification to determine if a detected rogue is a threat - Is the AP on the corporate network or a neighbors network. Automatic Rogue AP Containment – If a rogue is found and classified as a threat, automatic action can be taken to shut it down. Client Bridging Detection – is an laptop misconfigured to bridge wired and wireless together. This is a signature that can be detected using the aruba system. 3rd-party AP Monitoring – We can be deployed along side a 3rd party wlan network such as cisco for use as a WIDS deployment. Denial of Service Attack Detection The final application is actually a series of applications. These can be broadly described as “things you can do with your wireless network that you couldn’t do with a wired network”. The first is voice over WLAN. This is a popular application, especially in verticals like healthcare. The idea is to give you the same mobility experience you might get with cellular, only using wireless LAN instead with handsets that are extensions of an IP-PBX. Voice over WLAN is basically putting VoIP on top of wireless – though it turns out there are some tricks to making that work well, and Aruba has some very good technology for doing that. Down the road, the next evolution for voice over WLAN is called FMC – Fixed Mobile Convergence. The idea is to take a handset with both a Wi-Fi radio and a cellular radio and make handoff between the two networks seamless. You’ll be hearing more about FMC in the next couple of years.
