Text analysis
Part one (para.1-10) gives an account of the narrator’s first occasion of seeing the sunrise when she was a young girl
Part two (para.11-17) describes the narrator’s second occasion of seeing the sunrise when she was a mother
Main idea: through description and comparison of the two occasions of seeing the sunrise, it can been seen clearly that some things have remained unchanged. like the view of the sunrise. the time and weather, the log steps…some things have changed like the writer (form a 14-year-old to a mother, the writer’s mother (from a mother to a grandma)…this suggests the truth that the beauty of nature is eternal .people’s love of nature is everlasting though life is short .growing older only intensifies such love.
Language points in Reading Comprehension
1. whisper: vi. Speak quietly
2. flash open: open quickly and wide.
3. take in: mentally absorb what is seen.
E.g. The dazzling sunlight blinded the man for a moment. After a while he could take in what was around him.
4. The last thing this 14-year-old wants to do: What the 14-year-old dislikes most is to get out of a warm bed and walk out into the freezing outdoors to see the sunrise. E.g.
Taking exams is the last thing I wanted to do in my school life.
Who do you think you are? You are the last person I want to talk about this thing with.
5. set off: set out, begin a journey 启程,出发

6. make a supreme effort: make a very great effort. 尽力
