Language points: come at; sweep…from; from the belching of; be girdled with; farm meager lands; in force; result in; negotiable; indigenous; crop out; rip off; slow drought; etc. 2. Main idea of the text 3. Structural analysis of the text 4. Rhetorical notes: personification, transferred epithet, metaphor, etc. 5. Word study: wonder, persist, conduct, maintain 6. Grammar: tense and mood III. The Difficult Points 1. Exposition development. 2. The theme of the text. IV. Introduction about the Author John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California in 1902. His father was a flour miller who also served as a county official. His mother was a school teacher. Steinbeck attended Stanford University in California on and off for five years, studying literature and taking courses in writing. He worked at various unskilled jobs, acquiring knowledge about the lower levels of society and gaining admiration for the human qualities of the humble people. He wrote stories about the low and the oppressed. In 1939, “the Grapes of Wrath”, his masterpiece came out, which became a huge success. John Steinbeck was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962 for his lifetime work but primarily for the great works he produced in the 1930’s.He died of a heart attack on December
