mise-en-scene和montage手法分析
Assignment 1“For Bazin, early cinema is divided between its two approaches to the cinematicimage: the Mise-en-Scene, and the Montage.” What are the differences between these two approaches, and their effect on the audience?I believe that the Mise-en-Sence and the Montage are two very different yet important things for a film production. The two approaches certainly have many differences, I think the most obvious one is that Mise-en Scene means everything included in the scene, such as the performances by the actors and how the directorsarrange the whole scene to emphasize something, while Montage focuses on the editing of different scenes and how the relationship of those things does its work.From my point of view, the Mise-en-Scene gives everything in the scene a purpose. All the details in front of the movie camera are supposed to have a meaning. However when it comes to Montage, a single scene may be meaningless, but when that single scene is put together with other scenes to create somethingdifferent, they can have a whole new meaning that only exists in the special combination of the scenes.Both approaches can benefit a film although in different ways. For example, a classic movie in which we can see the importance of Mise-en-Scene is The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari. The two pictures below are scenes picked from the movie.As a horror movie, it is disturbing and unsettling, which makes it a success considering that there are no special effects or sounds of people in it.All the messages come from the Mise-en-Scene.As is shown in the picture, all the lines are distorted and exaggerated, and the facial expression of people is an abnormal expression of horror. The lightning also, is gloomy. All of this is the Mise-en-Scene of the movie as well as the key to the frightening atmosphere. Montage, using the editing and combination of different scenes to create a span of time and space, can give new meanings to the set of the scenes. Unlike the Mise-en-Scene, I believe that M
