Unit3 A Healthy Life Reading: Advice From Grandad Three dimensional teaching aims: 1. Language and skills aims Phrases and expressions about health and smoking Learn how to give advice on stopping smoking Grasp skimming and scanning reading skills. 2. Process and methods Pre-reading while-reading post-reading by interviewing, discussing in groups and acting out dialogues. 3. Attitude and values Enjoy a healthy life and say “no” to smoking. Teaching important points: Learn the bad effects of smoking and in what ways people get addicted to cigarettes. Teaching difficult points: How to encourage the students to discuss in groups effectively and try to use the language in the text to express their ideas in their own words. Teaching methods: Discussion, cooperative learning and oral practice. Teaching aids: A computer and multi--media Teaching procedures: Step1: Lead-in Designing purpose: Use the English news report to arouse the students’ interest , to attract students’ attention and practice the listening skills. Ask the students to watch the video and then try to fill the blanks with one word. More than 1200 Americans die every day due to c________.
