Analysis of Characters Shining论文:Analysis of Characters Shining in Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind
abstract:scarlett o’hara, the heroin in gone with the wind, is always the disputed figure in the academic world. no doubt that she is absolutely not a perfect female but her charms go beyond the permission of the law in that time. the thesis intends to analyze her most charming characters ─unique selfishness, shrewdness, strong belief and her rebelliousness among those rich characters in her. however, she shows women the window on the new world in which self – awareness of woman has emerged and waken up.

1.1 unique selfishness
as a girl, scarlett o’hara only lives in her own world. she crazily and selfishly loves ashley and hunts for ashley. she is so selfishly to flatter other boys that she makes other girls envy her, which leads scarlett o’hara’s inability to bond with melanie and with any women in the society, reinforces the central conflict, the feminine/masculine opposition. on one hand, this may be the only sense in which she becomes archetypically female and as such acceptable one to the culture at large: one woman against other women in competition for men.
she is tied of war, “fiddle-dee-dee!war,war,war. this war talk’s spoiling all the fun at every party this spring. i get so bored i could scream. besides, there is not going to be any war.”. so scarlett o’hara’s attitude seems like self-centered, wishful thinking, (margaret mitchell, 1991). the war is not her business in her eyes. however, as the civil war goes on, her selfishness changed greatly, which is unique and great. the selfishness driven by her own strength is not only good for herself but also valuable for many other people who are struggling on the verge of death. the cooler and more selfish the war makes her, the greater and more charming the war makes her. in danger of losing tara an
