Unit 1 Greetings Teaching Times: 4 periods Students’ Level: Freshmen of Non-English majors Teaching Objectives: The teaching of the text aims to enable the Ss 1. to learn the words about Greetings and Farewells; 2. to master the useful expressions of greetigs and farewells in different situations; 3. to practice greetings farewells in different situations . Key Points: Teaching Methods: explanation; discussion; exemplification; communicative approach The first two periods Getting Started( book closed)(10-15minutes) 1. Teacher introduces his or herself and write the name on the board. 2. Have students introduce themselves to their classmates near them. 3. After students introduce themselves, teacher shows slides read: Hi, I’m Yang Yiyan. Call me Yiyan. I have an English name, Julie. So you can call me Julie. Nice to meet you. Teacher asks students to introduce themselves to 2 classmates using the expressions. Part One: Warm Up (books open)(20-25minutes) (Page 8) Teacher asks students to open the books to page 8 and asks students to consider each picture tipped by the questions: Who are they? Where are they? Do they know each other? Present the task: students try to write the missing words before they are listening to the audio. Sts can check with each other. (2-3minutes) Teacher plays the audio and sts listen and check their answers. Teacher asks sts to write the answers on the board and check with the whole class. Model each greeting, pausing for sts to repeat. Emphasize the stressed words to familiarize sts with the intonation patterns of English. Notice#1: “Nice to meet you” is used with introductions. “Nice to see you.”is used to greet someone the speaker knows. “Nice meeting you.”is used before saying good-bye to the new acquaintance. Teacher asks sts to greet with “ Nice to meet you. Nice to see you. And Nice meeting you.” in different situations. Situations: 1. Look! You don’t know each other. 2. You are classmates and you know
