冷池—冷風通道封閉 Data center electricity costs are already in the range of $3.3 billion annually, and the number of servers in the United States will jump 50% over the next four years, IDC predicts. The data center utility bill exceeds the cost of acquiring new computers for some companies. And it can cost more to cool a data center than it does to lease the floor space to house it. Supersize electric bills are a related problem. Businesses paid about 20% more for electricity last year than they did in 2004, according to IDC, with rates jumping more than 40% in some parts of the country. As density increases, however, the amount of heat produced by blades and their processor cores rises, and you have computings double whammy--pay once to power servers and a second time to cool them. This shows typical airflow in a data centre. You can see where we have some unusual airflow patterns. The really hot spots are shown in red. Cooling works differently to power. It’s less precise.. Air is different to power. Plug a socket in over there and your pretty certain to get the same voltage over here. However, if you have a 50kW air-conditioning unit over there who knows what cooling capacity you’ll end up with over here. We need to get the hot air away from the server exhaust and deliver air at a consistent temperature to the server inlets. So here’s the problem. Compaction of technology and stuffing more equipment into the same space is beginning to give data centre managers a headache. But fear not. There is an answer. Case Study based on a MW project.
