To study the key words and expressions: “assessment, remedial, attainment, constant, subsequent, prospective, arbitrary” etc. by learning the passage of this part. 2. To know about the ways of testing 3. To grasp the main idea of the passage. Ability objects 1 To develop the Ss’ abilities of reading comprehension. 2 To develop the Ss’ abilities of guessing the meanings of certain phrases and words. 教学要点及教学进程: Step1 Lead-in: Warm-up questions: 1. What kinds of exams have you ever take part in? 2. Is it just and fair to test one’s language level by written exams? Step2 Analyzing and Summarizing The teacher asks one question for each paragraph and the Ss read the passage paragraph by paragraph and give their answers to the teacher’s questions. Question for Para.1: What is the PLACEMENT test, and what is its advantage and disadvantage? Question for Para.2: What is the DIAGNOSTIC test, and what is its advantage and disadvantage? Question for Para.3: What is the ACHIEVEMENT test, and what is its advantage and disadvantage? Question for Para.4: What is the PROFICIENCY test, and what is its advantage and disadvantage? Step3 Language Points The Ss choose some useful expressions and sentences from the passage, and then the teacher demonstrates their usage. The following should be chosen and practiced.
