Introduction Extremely compact Photonic Crystal (PC) microcavity filters for optical communications have been proposed and demonstrated in the literature, with promising results for employment in monolithic Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) [1]. Due to the large refractive index discontinuities involved, very broadband filters can be designed, offering good prospects for applications in coarse DWM (CDWM)systems. In this work, we demonstrate two very compact and broadband deeply etched PC filters that could be incorporated into an InP monolithic Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) such as described in [2]. The first structure is a six-period, 20xl0[tm2 tilted rectangular array of air holes that provides a low-pass transfer function with an edge close to 2=1.54[tm with about 20dB sto
