Only authorised people should be able to create new or edit existing programs, as well as programming or editing of the tooldata. Therefore the controller has a keyswitch to prevent uncontrolled programming. With the keyswitch in the off position the operator can execute a selected program. The operator can not change the parameters to wrong, unwanted values.
